Mr Abdul Rahim, 73 years old, is currently bedridden. He is also completely blind on both eyes, partially deaf and is unable to speak. Mr Abdul Rahim has been bedridden since 2006 when he suffered a fatal fall following a stroke.
Mr Abdul Rahim requires round the clock care and his main caretaker is his wife, Mdm Sunarmi, 68 years old. Mdm Sumarni herself suffers from heart disease and requires regular medical check-up. Mdm Sunarmi is already advanced in age and is no longer physically strong. Yet, she continues to lovingly care for her husband ensuring that he consumes his medications daily, feeding him, showering him and changing his diapers.
Mr Abdul Rahim used to work as a cleaner and was a very hardworking man. In 1996, he won the long service award after working for many years at a ministry as a cleaner. He was forced to stop working in 2006 when he suffered a stroke that required his wife to be his main caregiver. The couple has no children and has since been surviving on his savings.
Mr Abdul Rahim and Mdm Sunarmi lives in a rental unit and lives an extremely frugal life. Mr Abdul Rahim’s savings are almost depleted, and Mdm Sunarmi worries greatly about their future finances.
