Mdm Lidya, 69 years old, suffers from a long list of chronic and lifelong illnesses. Her life since young has been difficult and painful. Mdm Lidya contracted Polio when she was a child and has been wheelchair bound since. As her legs are undeveloped, she is unable to walk and is mostly confined to her bed. She also has colon cancer and uses a stoma bag along with suffering from migraine and is prone to falls. In May this year, she suffered another setback when her kidneys were inflamed due to a bacterial infection. She was hospitalised for 20 days receiving intensive treatment and is currently on painkillers to manage her pain on her abdomen. Mdm Lidya is also diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder.
Mdm Lidya is currently staying with her sister in their 2-room flat. Her sister, Mdm Fatimah, 64 years old, will be going for a total knee replacement surgery scheduled for November this year.
Mdm Lidya is unable to work due to her long list of chronic illnesses. She is being supported by her sister, Mdm Fatimah, who works hard as a cleaner. However, her income as a cleaner is low and she struggles to provide for her sister. Even though the government provides Mdm Lidya with stoma bags every month, their combined expenses are still high. They have arrears with SP and Town Council.
Mdm Lidya is mostly cooped up at home, confined to her bed. She watches TV to pass her time and faces the 4 walls of her home alone as her sister works for more than 10 hours a day.
Help Needed- Give Hope
Even though Mdm Fatimah is working, as a cleaner and a single income earner, her salary is insufficient to support the both of them.
ROHI is therefore raising S$1,320 (S$200 x 6 months) for the sister’s living expenses and (S$40 x 3 months) so that volunteers can bring Mdm Lidya out while we refer her to an elderly care centre. Mdm Lidya is mostly isolated at home and it would be good for her mental health if we were to bring her out for fresh air while the referral to an elderly care centre takes place. Please donate to Mdm Lidya and her sister, Mdm Fatimah. Both elderlies are struggling to get by so every donation matters!
