Mustakim, 8 years old, is like any other boys his age, active, curious and adventurous. However, Mustakim has lead a difficult and painful life. When he was born, Mustakim was not able to walk as he suffers from Spastic Diplegia which is a form of cerebral palsy which causes his legs to be curved in an unnatural position. He also suffers from dislocation of the hip and learning disabilities. Since the day he was born, he has undergone 9 surgeries in total out of which 7 is to correct his legs so that he may be able to walk. Mustakim is scheduled for another operation in January 2018 to further correct both his legs.
Mustakim’s mother, Madam Idayu, is currently his full-time caregiver who assists him with day to day activities. His father is the sole breadwinner and currently works as a cleaner. Mustakim has an older brother and is also living with his elderly grandmother. As his father is the sole breadwinner with many dependants, the family barely gets by day to day. Mustakim is currently on a special diet of milk powder and whenever he is in school, he uses a diaper. His milk powder and diapers expenses have taken a toll on the family’s expenses.
Madam Idayu proudly informs us that despite missing school due to his various surgeries and learning disabilities, Mustakim still manages to pass all his exams. Madam Idayu’s wish is for Mustakim to one day grow up to be an independent person.
ROHI would therefore like to raise S$196 a month for four months for Mustakim’s milk powder, diapers and living expenses.
