Mdm Jurina, 44 years old, has chronic kidney failure. She was diagnosed with kidney failure when she was just 25 years old and underwent an operation to remove her right kidney. Her son, 23 years old, suffers from cerebral palsy and attends a special needs school. He is not independent and Mdm Jurina is a full-time caregiver to her son.
In August 2016, Mdm Jurina developed chronic pain on her back and pelvic. She was diagnosed with ovarian vein syndrome and further tests also revealed that her only kidney left is infected with bacterial infection. She was also diagnosed with depression in 2017 however, due to financial constraints, she has stopped treatment.
Mdm Jurina is unable to work due to her chronic health issues and caregiving duties to her son. When we met Mdm Jurina, she broke down in tears talking about her struggles. Even though she has government assistance, the amount is insufficient, and she has amassed arrears with HDB, SP, Town Council and two public hospital. Caring for a special needs child while battling lifelong chronic pain and kidney failure is not easy. Mdm Jurina has a lot of worries. While having to look after her son, she has to worry about her own failing health and the arrears which she has incurred.
Help Needed- Give Hope
Mdm Jurina currently struggles with living expenses as she is unable to work.
ROHI would therefore like to raise S$1,200 (S$300 x 4 months) to defray Mdm Jurina’s living expenses while she reapplies for SSO’s assistance. Please help and give hope to Mdm Jurina as caring for a special needs child is never easy, especially when the caregiver herself is chronically ill.

Mdm Jurina has started working!
Our case managers recently met Mdm Jurina. She has started working part time as an office cleaner. Even though the job is physically demanding, she is relieved to be employed as it provides a steady income for her family. Mdm Jurina informs me that her employers are understanding of her health issues and she is happy at her workplace.

ROHI's case manager recently met Mdm Jurina. She will be undergoing intensive treatment soon to remove the bacteria infection on her remaining kidney. She is hopeful that the non-invasive surgery will be successful as she does not wish to undergo another round of operation as she worries for the well being of her son should she have to undergo surgery.
