Hari Raya is a celebration where families gather to mark the end of Ramadhan, a time where Muslims worldwide abstain from food from dawn to dusk. One of the main objectives of fasting is to help better empathise with the less fortunate. While many families have the privilege to celebrate Hari Raya, many of our beneficiaries do not have the luxury to do.
Mdm Jalinah, who is featured in our Raya For Hope video, is a mother to 10 children between the ages of 5 – 17 years old. Yearly celebration for the family has been a very simple affair due to financial constraints. All Mdm Jalinah asks for this year is to be able to buy new sets of Raya clothes for her children so that they can celebrate Hari Raya with happiness.
Another client, Mdm Lisa, has not had a happy celebration in years. Her children and her were subjected to physical, mental and emotional abuse by her estranged husband who is currently incarcerated for trying to set them on fire. Coupled with financial constraints, Mdm Lisa spends Hari Raya at home alone, not receiving relatives.
ROHI is raising S$10,000 so that 21 families can celebrate Hari Raya with dignity, pride and joy just like us. As we indulge in the festive season, let's not forget that a little goes a long way.
Let us bring happiness to Mdm Jalinah and other beneficiaries as they celebrate Hari Raya with Hope.
