The Struggle
Everyone makes mistakes in life, but that doesn’t mean they have to pay for them for the rest of their lives. And in Mr Prakaas’s case, at least he learnt from them.
Mr Prakaas, a 55-year-old, has been exposed and was involved in drugs on and off during his younger days. It was only till 1999 when he finally decided to take a clean break from it for the sake of his family. Sadly, that break lasted for 16 years before he went back to drugs again. The 55-year-old confided in us that he knew it was an excuse, but he went back to taking drugs due to the immense amount of stress his health was causing him at that time. “I wanted to give up. I feel like there’s nothing more to life after I was diagnosed with stroke and a heart attack in such a short period of time.”
Today, he is deeply remorseful for his actions and wants to focus all his energy on getting his life back together and supporting his family.
Help Needed - Give Hope
Mr Prakaas used to work as a safety coordinator, drawing a salary of $3K per month. He used to be the sole breadwinner of his family, until he was diagnosed with stroke in 2013 and suffered from a third heart attack in 2014. He was also diagnosed with a series of chronic illnesses such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and arthritis. Back then his wife had no choice but to go out and work as a cashier to support the family. Mr Prakaas told us that he felt sorry for what he has put his wife through and would like to turn over a new leaf for her once he is out. However, there is little he can do now as he does not even have sufficient money to make a new IC and start a bank account. Through our conversations with him, we can feel his determination of starting afresh and desire to contribute to his family. He also told us that his wife is finding it difficult to make ends meet and would appreciate if we could help his family during this period before he is released.
Financial Breakdown
ROHI is helping to raise $900.00 ($300 for 3 months) to help supplement his family household arrears, before he is released early next year. Please give hope and donate to Mr Prakaas, your second chance means a lot to him and his family!
